Your background is a perfect match to my lab. It is great that you use Zemax to design optical imaging systems (perhaps not many labs on OCT imaging really do that). We do the similar things and we have different imaging modalities. We have excellent facilities in optical design, fabrication, and system integration. I feel you are a motivated researcher. You can learn and do a lot of things in my lab. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to apply for PhD position in my lab.
By the way, our current polarization-sensitive OCT uses swept source at 1060 nm.
