求问教授说keep contact该怎么办呢？多谢！

我打算申请2016 spring的PhD, 现在开始套磁，结果MSU 教授这么回复我：Thank you very much for your inquiry regarding our graduate program. Unfortunately, I do not have any graduate student funding currently available. However, this situation may well change by Spring of 2016. Hence, I would encourage you to keep in contact and would welcome your application this fall at which time I should know more about the funding situation.
请问我该如何和他keep contact呢？是每一个月发一封邮件问他funding的事情怎么样了？还是不提funding和录取，找些他的paper看看，去问他其中不懂的问题？
还有这个keep contact的频率是多少比较好？每月一封还是半月一封呢？
