[Urgent] Serious Negative Comments on OPT STEM extension rule
Dear xxx,
Hope my email finds you well.
My name is xxx, I am a proud [your school] alumni and graduated with [your degree, major] on [graduate time].
Currently I am on OPT STEM extension. However, a recent federal district court ruling in Washington Alliance of Technology Workers v. DHS vacated the STEM OPT program and the Judge stayed her ruling keeping the STEM OPT program in place until February 12, 2016.
Now that DHS has published a new rule "Improving and Expanding Training Opportunities for F-1 Nonimmigrant Students with STEM Degrees; Cap-Gap Relief for All F-1 Students With Pending H-1B Petitions and Change of Status Requests" (for short I refer this as new OPT STEM extension rule). I am glad to see this new rule.However, overwhelming negative comments emerged recently and has already outnumbered and outweighed than the supporting voice. Now there's less than 10 days left till the due date(November 19, 2015) I am really concerned that the new OPT STEM extension rule might fail to pass and many of the OPT STEM students are force to leave the country by February 12, 2016. To avoid the great disturbance among international students and their employers, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Graduate Student Council has already stepped out and support their students.( See this link gsc.mit.edu)
Hence I urge the engineering department stand by our side and take actions.
