The Ning Lab (http://cs.iupui.edu/~xning/) at the Department of Computer and Information Science, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), USA, is looking for 3 Ph.D students on Data Mining, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics with applications on Recommender Systems, Biomedical Informatics and Drug Discovery, starting in Spring 2017. The students will be financially supported as research assistants (RA) with tuition waived and stipend paid by the lab.
Ideal candidates should be self-motivated and determined! They are expected to have a strong background in Math, Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering or Automation. Extensive programming experience in either C/C++, MATLAB or Python is desired. Basic knowledge and experience in Data Mining and Machine Learning is preferred.
About IUPUI and CS@IUPUI:
The CS doctoral program of IUPUI is part of Computer Science Department of Purdue University West Lafayette, which is among the top 20 CS programs in the US. CS@IUPUI awards Purdue Ph.D degrees and all the student recruitment, thesis defense, prelim exams, etc, are fully managed by PUWL. IUPUI is a joint campus between Indiana University and Purdue University, which is located in the downtown Indianapolis. IUPUI leverages the resources of both IU Bloomington and PUWL. For example, IU medical school is located on IUPUI campus, which includes several best hospitals and medical research institutes nation wide and provides a lot of opportunities for CS research. The CS department of IUPUI is growing significantly in recent years, particularly in the data mining and machine learning research areas.
CS@IUPUI cannot be ranked in US News because the Phd program is not an independent program (it is part of CS@Purdue). All its research outcomes and grant supports go to Purdue or IU.
