The privacy-enhancing technologies lab (PETsLab) is seeking candidates for two postdoctoral scholar positions, as part of a recently awarded grant from DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). Our project concentrates on privacy-preserving machine learning, and it is part of DARPA’s Brandeis program that has attracted world-renowned experts in privacy-enhancing technologies. We focus on building new and innovative privacy-enhancing technologies in research areas such as: Machine learning, Big Data Analytics and Mobile device privacy. These two openings are for postdoctoral scholars in the area of machine learning and privacy-enhancing technologies, and the appointments are two years and are renewable for a third year.

Responsibilities
Plan and execute innovative research to advance privacy-enhancing technologies especially in the area of machine learning and mobile device privacy.
Collaborate with other researchers within our team in Princeton University, Iowa State University and University of South Florida
Mentor PhD students at the University of South Florida to advance our research goals
Explore research collaboration opportunities with researchers from other top universities and companies in the other research teams participating in the Brandeis program
Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences

Minimum Job Requirements (for both positions)
Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent oral presentation and writing skills
Strong programming skills including experience with Java, MATLAB, Python and/or R (although the candidates are expected to concentrate on research rather than system development).

Position 1 (Security/Privacy Postdoctoral Researcher)
Minimum Job Requirements

A PhD in Computer Science, or related field completed within the past three years or soon to be completed
Research-level expertise in at least one of the following: Privacy-enhancing technologies, Security, applied cryptography and/or mobile device privacy.
Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings in the areas of security and privacy.

Position 2 (Machine Learning Postdoctoral Researcher)
Minimum Job Requirements

A PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, or related field completed within the past three years or soon to be completed.
Research-level expertise in at least one of the following: Machine Learning, Computer Vision and/or Big data analytics.
Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings in the areas of machine learning and/or computer vision.

Preferred Qualifications (Both positions):
Proven record of research in privacy-preserving machine learning systems. A researcher that has expertise that pertains to both positions mentioned above.
Proven track record of achieving academic results, including papers at conferences such as S&P (Oakland), CCS, Usenix Security, NDSS, ICML, AISTATS, SIGKDD, CVPR, ECCV/ICCV, etc.
Big Data Platforms such as Hadoop / Spark (2 years)
