Prof. Yang Zhou in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the Auburn University is recruiting 2‐3 PhD students with Research Assistantship in Spring 2018, Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. The successful candidates are expected to do research work in data mining, deep learning, machine learning, or parallel and distributed computing. Interested students are encouraged to send their CVs to Prof. Zhou at: 1point3acres.com. Prof. Yang Zhou received his PhD degree in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His primary research bridges several areas of big data algorithms and systems, including data mining, machine learning, parallel and distributed computing, database systems, and cloud computing, with a focus on the development of effective and scalable algorithms, systems, and applications that address the challenges of big data. His research efforts have led to 30 publications with more than 1000 citations and H‐index of 13 in top venues of data mining (SIGKDD, ICDM, TKDD, DMKD), database systems (VLDB), high-performance computing (HPDC, SC), networking (JSAC), and software engineering (ISSTA). He has been named as KDD Rising Star by Microsoft Academic Search and Microsoft Research Asia in 2016. Some of his research results have been included in reading lists and taught in courses at universities worldwide, such as U Michigan, CWRU, KAIST, HKUST, CUHK, and so on. He has been serving as the PC member of ICDM and the reviewer of Computational Intelligence, DAPD, DMKD, GigaScience, JCS, JPDC, Machine Learning, PLOS ONE, TDSC, TKDD, TNSE, TOIT, TSC, TWEB, and WWWJ. The lab has close collaborations with both academic institutions and industrial research labs, such as Georgia Tech, U Oregon, U Pittsburgh, Kent State University, Louisiana State University, IBM Research, Microsoft Research, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, etc.
Qualified candidates are expected to have:
1. Highly self‐motivated,
2. Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python,
3. Strong problem analysis and solving ability,
4. Good mathematical background is a plus but not required.
5. Experiences with neural network and deep learning such as Tensorflow, Caffe, Theano, or MXnet will be a big plus but not essential,
6. System related research/project experience is a plus but not required.
