The Im Lab (imlaboratory.org) is currently seeking motivated postdoctoral researchers, graduate students (PhD candidates/Master's candidates), and interns to join our team. We are an experimental-based materials research group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
Our research focuses on novel material design and manufacturing, aiming to increase industrial efficiency and environmental sustainability. Our development relies on modifying nano/micro-structures in metallic materials to achieve properties beyond their intrinsic characteristics. This approach involves a comprehensive understanding of thermomechanical processing, thermodynamic phenomena, and kinetic behaviors.
We welcome candidates with backgrounds in metallurgy, materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related fields. Full funding, including tuition, stipend, and benefits, will be provided. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Professor Hyeji Im (1point3acres.com) directly with their CV.

Projects Overview:
  1. Our approach combines metal additive manufacturing with other fabrication methods, such as machining, in a sequential process. Each project involves various detailed concepts and materials (refractory alloy, steels, etc.).
  2. We develop novel fabrication methods that streamline the refinement of metal elements and facilitate the recycling of used alloys. Examples include extracting specific elements from scrap metals and adjusting impurity limits, such as carbon content, within alloys.
  3. We design alloys capable of withstanding extreme environments, including high temperatures, cryogenic conditions, energy generation systems, and lunar exploration missions, etc.
