Position Description
The Emerging Mobility Lab at Wayne State University (WSU), led by Dr. Xiaodong Qian, invites applications for one Ph.D. student position in areas of emerging mobility, pedestrian & cyclist safety, and transportation resilience. Prospective students must have a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related fields, such as Transportation Engineering. Preferred skills/experiences include spatial analysis, transportation simulation, data-driven modeling, and computer programming (Python, R, C, etc.). The expected start time is Fall 2024. About Dr. Xiaodong Qian
Dr. Qian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at WSU. His research focuses on the intersection of emerging mobilities, transportation safety and health, disaster management, and transportation equity. Prior to joining WSU, he works as a postdoctoral associate in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University and in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and economics & management from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering at UC Davis in 2019. He has been a Principal Investigator (PI) for projects funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
