The emo.auburn.edu in the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Environment at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, USA is seeking a self-motivated doctoral student who is willing to pursue research in one of the area from (1) Wetland remote sensing and carbon cycling; (2) Urban remote sensing and sustainability; and (3) Ecosystem modeling for land carbon cycling . Specific research topics are open.
 
The successful doctoral candidate will enroll in the Ph.D. program in Earth System Science. A master’s degree in geography, engineering, Earth science, ecology, or environmental science is preferred but not required. Candidates with experience in using R/Python programming languages, deep machine learning, and/or remote sensing technology are especially encouraged to apply. In the program, the candidate is expected to develop strong modeling (AI or process-based) and/or data analysis skills and will have the opportunity to study a wide range of climate change and environmental issues.

Successful candidates for both positions will work with Dr. Zutao Yang and his collaborators at Auburn University and multiple other research institutes (e.g., Stanford University, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Boston College).
