A Ph.D. student position, with full financial support, in Civil Engineering is immediately available in the research group of Dr. Yu Qian at the University of South Carolina (USC). The expected enrollment time is Fall 2024. USC is the flagship university in the beautiful State of South Carolina (sc.edu sc.edu staff/qian_yu.php
Dr. Yu Qian is an Associate Professor at USC, with 15 years of engagement in transportation infrastructure research, including heavy haul, urban transit, and high-speed railroad. His research interests mainly focus on intelligent railroad infrastructure inspection and maintenance; computer vision; and edge computing. Dr. Qian serves as the Secretary of the ASCE Rail Transportation Committee, a committee member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA).
The research group seeks highly motivated applicants from civil, electrical, mechanical engineering, or computer science backgrounds, with interest (and preferably experience) in computer vision, deep learning, and edge computing. The research topic involves lightweight onboard vehicle-based and UAV-imagery based real-time track inspection.
