Dear student,

Are you interested in Applied Statistics/Mathematics? Are you interested in the growing fields of business analytics or data mining and big data? Would you like to be able to apply your mathematical skills to interesting, practical problems? If so, I invite you to consider the MS program in Applied Statistics offered by Bowling Green State University (BGSU).

The Master of Science in Applied Statistics (“MSAS”) and the MSAS with a specialization in business analytics prepare graduates for successful careers as statisticians in the public, private, and academic sectors. The MSAS degree can be completed in as little as three semesters, while the business analytics specialization is typically completed in four semesters. Please see the attached document for course requirements and possible electives.

The program allows students to tailor the program to their career goals. There are a wide variety of electives offered in applied statistics and mathematical statistics, including biology, computer science, operations research, accounting, business administration, finance, sociology, actuarial science, and math. The MSAS degree with a specialization in business analytics has become increasingly popular at BGSU, especially as employment opportunities for business analysts has significantly increased recently. The business analytics specialization at BGSU prepares students for careers using computing and data in concert with statistics by combining a foundation of statistics with skills in management of information systems and business operations.

Graduates have used their degree as a foundation to enter Ph.D. programs at top institutions like harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Michigan, and UCLA. Former graduates have gone on to become faculty members at top universities like Yale, Columbia, and North Carolina at Chapel Hill. MSAS graduates have also pursued careers in public health and clinical research with organizations such as the Harvard School of Public Health, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Eli Lilly and Company. Other graduates have moved on to careers with banking, manufacturing, insurance, and other private companies. Some well-known companies that our graduates have gone on to work with include Capital One, Morgan Stanley, Honda, Nike, Microsoft, eBay, Amazon, the Walt Disney Company, Delta Airlines, BP, Nationwide Insurance, and Allstate Insurance, as well as many others.

Financial support in the form of scholarships and assistantships is available to qualified applicants on a limited and competitive basis. Most of our MS students receive some type of funding to support their studies in the MS program.
