Dr. Q.C. Tony He is recruiting students (enroll 2017 Spring Semester) who want to obtain their Ph.D. degrees in the department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. The research topic will be themed under the umbrella of sustainable operations (energy, environment, and social responsibility etc.).
The outstanding applicants will receive a full tuition waiver, and stipend as long as they are in good standing with the department. Students work approximately 20 hours per week as research and/or teaching assistants. The initial appointment will be terminated before 2018 Fall, and the continuation of financial aid will be contingent on the student’s academic performance.
Dr. He is currently an Assistant Professor in University of North Carolina (Charlotte). Dr. He joins UNC (Charlotte) systems engineering department from the University of California, Berkeley, where he completed his doctoral study in operations research. He also worked for industry as a data scientist. His current research interests include socially responsible and sustainable operations, service operations and supply chain management, and data-driven decision making.
The required qualifications are (1) Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or any other quantitative discipline. (2) Strong mathematical background or willingness to lean in both optimization and data analysis. (3) Strong programming skills in at least one programming language.
The campus is located at Charlotte, NC. Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the second largest in the entire southeastern United States. Charlotte is the third fastest growing major city in the United States. Charlotte is home to the corporate headquarters of Bank of America and the east coast operations of Wells Fargo, which along with other financial institutions makes it the second largest banking center in the United States. Charlotte has a humid subtropical climate similar to that of southern China. The city is safe and the school is located at suburban area.
