在美国暑研的funding status和F1签证的问题~

LZ我申请了2017年暑期的暑研。。套了一个DUKE的老师、
然后呢，关于手续，对方的老师和小秘是这样和我说的，
“Please could you have your university advisors send me letters of recommendation (at least 2)
and that can speak of your abilities. Could you also forward your funding status
that would allow for you to spend the summer”（需要推荐信和资金状态）

然后学弟我在手续方面有点问题了。
首先是funding status，这个funding status ，需要冻结资金么？还是直接开存款证明啥的？

然后是关于签证的问题，这个暑研是2017年暑假。 之前，2016年暑假，我参加过ucla summer session。当时ucla给我发过i20, 当时的i20表格现在已经过期了，但是F1签证貌似还没有过期。那我如果2017年暑期去暑研，签证还需要重办不？还是F1签证？还是需要办别的类型的签证？
