几点感受，visit下来还是有很大收获的。
1. schedule的安排能说明一定问题。比如说cornell的perspective需要参加所有area的group introduction，uw基本上去一个就会错过另外一个。很明显，cornell并不expect你stick to the area you apply for. and this is true since grad does not need an advisor for the first year。
2. 每个学校都有自己的culture。比如有些比较individualism (stanford + mit)，有些比较collaborative。像uw换advisor相当容易，而且鼓励学生有>1个advisor。cmu换advisor就比较困难。有的学校的某些group和industry合作很紧密，可以找industry的人作advisor之类的。intern的情况，job placement等等，
3. 跟faculty meeting很重要。一般可能会安排meet 5-6个faculty, anyone you want to meet。可以了解potential advisor，招不招人，招人有什么条件，或者听听别的area的prof在做什么，甚至可以打听别的学校的faculty，他们对别的学校的dept怎么看，或者让他们帮你考虑选校的问题。
4. 跟grad students谈话能了解很多信息。比如说ms容不容易quit，qualification容不容易fail。it really varies much between schools。还有prof好不好，push不push之类的。
5. 米国学生并不是那么看重ranking, 更看重faculty + area，which is the right thing to do. 比如有个拿到stanford & ucb & cmu的still visit cornell since there is kleinberg。uw有不少据掉top4的grad，尤其是system + vision，遇到一个first year ai grad，是据掉stanford & mit去uw的。现在有些中国学生也比较理智了，今年听说了一个据掉stanford去princeton的。据掉cmu去uw去年也有几个。
6. gossip with other perspectives。尤其是你不了解但又有点兴趣的area，可以问问申那个area的student是怎么看的。也可以了解其他学校的信息阿，其他你没有meet的prof的信息之类的。
7. visit the place you will live。比如说消费似乎并不是只跟地区相关的，e.g. 吃饭的话，ithaca就比la和seattle都贵，住宿seattle反而最便宜，which surprised me。
结论是campus visit能去最好就去，hope it is not too late to say that :)
