请问各位在美国professional doctor是个神马博士学位?不会是类似在职,函授之类吧?

前几天在ULCA主页上看到这个环境方向的 professional doctor 的项目:
http://www.environment.ucla.edu/ese/

然后发邮件给负责的教授这个博士学位和普通PHD有什么差别,他的回复如下:
The main difference between the DEnv and the PhD is one of breadth. A PhD usually narrows after the MS degree, but the DEnv broadens. The second difference is that many PhD programs have very few course requirements beyond those taken for the MS degree while the DEnv degree requires even more courses than a MS degree in order to achieve the desired breadth. Both degrees require a dissertation, but the DEnv dissertation can address a topic in a more multidisciplinary way and can address policy aspects of the topic. The DEnv dissertation has a single supervisor just like a PhD dissertation. The research topics for the DEnv have been quite variable. Some have been relatively narrow "scientific" or "engineering" investigations, while others are broader, more interdisciplinary and involve policy issues. Most DEnv graduates do not go on to university teaching but about 20 of the 225 ESE graduates in the last 40 years are now university faculty.

The ESE program involves two years on campus and then working as an "intern" for a company or government agency or non-profit organization. The ESE program provides complete support for the first two years, although students may work as teaching assistants or research assistants during those years. Support from the remaining years comes from the salary earned as an intern. No financial aid application is required. Because of the high non-resident fees charged at UCLA we may be limited in how many non-resident students we can admit in a given year.

对于我这种不是特别学术的人来说,这样的博士学位貌似还不错,但是貌似环境在美国不太好找工作,而且担心这个学位在国内不被承认。
不知有人了解么?!
