让之前的导师写推荐信，时态是用过去时还是现在时好呢？

2012毕业，想申2013fall master，做研究跟的导师是本科的，现在的导师都不太了解我，所以保守战略还是用本科的导师推荐。推荐信里是该用过去时呢还是现在时呢？比如在发表观点的时候：From her performancein my lectures and her research, I saw/see her outstanding potential and motivationto succeed in graduate study. 该用什么时态呢？
另，在评论事例的时候：During the time.....she demonstrated strong will of taking challengesand quick perception of new ideas.....这应该是用过去时吧？
