STEM OPT EAD卡信息错误及申请重新制卡经历

楼主一年OPT在去年10月底到期，8月底提交了STEM OPT申请。12月初收到卡的时候心凉了一半，EAD有效期和I-20上的日期不符，比申请的结束日期早了两个月。在给USCIS寄信要求重新制卡后一个多月的今天，终于收到信息正确的EAD。以下是我的timeline和经验：
8.27 收到I-765
9.7 收到notice，notice date是8.30，receipt number YSC1890321***
12.3 制卡
12.6 mailed
12.7 USPS picked up
12.8 delivered。我是同时拿到I-797 notice和EAD卡的。首先打开I-797就发现approved dates就是有问题的，再一看EAD上的日期，和I-797是一样的。
因为周围人没有遇到过这种情况，刚发现这个问题先是有点慌张。淡定下来后，开始想怎么解决这个问题。我把notice读了一遍，上面有这段话：
When you receive your EAD card, please check that all the information on the card is correct. If you need to change any information on the card, please mail all of the following to the office listed below:
- A letter explaining what information needs to be corrected,
- Your EAD card,
- A photocopy of this notice, and
- Evidence to show what the correct information should be. For example, if you need to correct your name, submit a copy of your birth certificate or official name change.
也就是说需要给USCIS寄信申请更改信息，并附支持材料。为了保险起见，我发邮件给学校的international center询问如何处理。IC的建议是给USCIS发信，附上带有申请的OPT日期的I20：
To request an EAD error correction, please return the original EAD containing the error along with supporting documentation (such as a copy of a passport or birth certificate) and a letter explaining the error
并且IC说，如果是USCIS导致的错误，我不用多付任何费用，并且30天内会重新制卡。根据这些信息，我准备了以下材料寄给USCIS：
- 一封信解释日期错误（具体内容附在帖子最后）
- 带有错误日期的EAD卡
- 手机拍照后打出来的I-797 copy
- 我的I-20 copy, 前一张EAD卡copy
材料准备好后装信封准备寄出。因为驾照过期了，不知道什么时候才能拿到新卡，不得以还用这张EAD去申了新驾照。。{:4_92:} 同时以防万一寄丢，还对EAD拍照留copy。
12.21 去USPS记了挂号信（certified mail），需要签收的那种。
1.1 USPS tracking显示：In Transit to Next Facility
1.13 快两周了tracking依然显示“In Transit to Next Facility”，有点担心，觉得是不是寄丢了。当天在邮局网上提交了Search Request，来找可能丢失的信。我还给客服打电话，但等了半个小时还是hold，因为有其它事情就挂了。。
1.15 突然收到短信说case有更新，已经制卡（我在USCIS网上订阅了更新，只要有新状态就会给我发短信、email）。这才知道USCIS已经收到我的信，估计USPS tracking挂了。上去一查，果然还是“In Transit to Next Facility”。。。心里无数草泥马，当然悬着的石头也落地了。

1.20 delivered，收到卡~~ 5个月申STEM OPT经历结束
总结一些经验分享：
1. 对任何有关身份材料都要留存及保存电子copy，包括申请表、I-20、EAD卡（过期及现在的）等，以备不时之需。我的所有材料我都会拍照在电脑里存档，需要的时候直接打印即可，节省时间。
2. 订阅USCIS的case update，包括短信和邮件，及时获得更新。这样就不需要频繁上网站查看。
3. 通过checkuscis.com来查看service center处理case进度。我在9月-12月期间，每周都去这个查一次进度。这样心里有数，估计拿到卡的时间。十分感谢这个网站的作者~
4. 遇到任何预期之外的情况，尤其是不可抗拒的（如EAD信息错误），不要慌张，冷静下来想对策。这样才能更好利用时间。
希望大家一切顺利，不要遇到这种幺蛾子。。。

I am submitting this letter to change the information on the EAD card issued to me. Specifically, the “Valid From” and “Card Expires”, shown as “08/**/18” and “08/**/20” on the card, do not match the requested start date and end date of STEM OPT on my I-20 in my original application documents.
Regarding OPT extension, the start date of the 24-month OPT extension is automatically set to the day after the expiration of the current 12-month OPT authorization. The end date will be 24 months later. Based on my previous OPT/EAD card (a copy attached to this letter, with “Card Expires” as “10/**/18”), the correct start date (“Valid From”) and end date (“Card Expires”) are “** Oct 2018” and “** Oct 2020”, respectively. A copy of my I-20 as the evidence to support these dates is also attached with this letter for your convenience.
I sincerely request USCIS to correct the information on my EAD card.
