Future System Architecture Group (FSA) at the University of Sydney is recruiting one full time Ph.D. RA students. The main research goal is to explore and design future complex heterogeneous architectures and system software. Potential scope includes planet-scale VR/AR system, deep-learning inspired co-design, high performance computing and edge/IOT computing and quantum computing. If you are selected, you will be primarily mentored by Dr. Shuaiwen Leon Song (sites.google.com), and also have opportunities collaborating with internationally recognized OS experts like professor Willy Zwaenepoel (sydney.edu.au) and quantum science experts at Sydney. The position prefers applicants who have strong programming skills (e.g., C, C++, Python), have basic background of computer architecture and system, good mathematical foundation, and good communication & presentation skills. Students with majors in CS, CE, EE, Math and Physics are encouraged to apply.

Additionally, applicants with any of the following qualifications are particularly preferred:

* Applicants with masters degree or working experience in the industry will be given preference

* Research or development experience in general computer architecture domain, specifically, many-core accelerators such as GPUs, or reconfigurable computing like FPGA

* Research or development experience in computer graphics, edge computing, high performance computing, or cloud computing

* Research experience in quantum system or quantum computing (e.g., there is a great Microsoft quantum computing hub at U of Sydeny: microsoft.com)

* Research experience in IoT/edge computing and standard cloud computing

Please send your CV, transcripts (both undergraduate and graduate), language scores, and other relevant documents to professor Song (1point3acres.com or 1point3acres.com). About University of Sydney and the city of Sydney:

Wikipedia: The University of Sydney is an Australian public research university in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1850, it was Australia's first university and is regarded as one of the world's leading universities. The university is colloquially known as one of Australia's sandstone universities. Its campus is ranked in the top 10 of the world's most beautiful universities by the British Daily Telegraph and The Huffington Post, spreading across the inner-city suburbs of Camperdown and Darlington. In 2018-19, the QS World University Rankings ranked Sydney as one of the world's top 25 most reputable universities, and its graduates as the No.4 most employable in the world and first in Australia. U.S. news ranked the University of Sydney as no. 31 in the world. Five Nobel and two Crafoord laureates have been affiliated with the university as graduates and faculty.[7] The university has educated seven Australian prime ministers, two Governors-General of Australia, nine state governors and territory administrators, and 24 justices of the High Court of Australia, including four chief justices. Sydney has produced 110 Rhodes Scholars and several Gates Scholars.

The University of the Sydney is located in the heart of the city downtown, walking distance to China town and Central Business District (CBD). It is also close to Sydney land marks including Sydney opera house, the royal botanic garden and world famous Bondi beach. Sydney has over 100 beaches. Sydney has often been regarded as one of the top ten cities to live in the world (recent Economists ranked Sydney as No.3 in the world most livable city), with safe public environment, good education system, and friendly immigration policies.
