The short answer is yes, I'm always looking for good new students. The longer answer is we are a small department that only accepts a few graduate students a year and we decide our graduate admissions as a group (all of the department’s professors) so it is not always up to me. Also, because your previous studies were not focusing on xxxxxx you would have a better chance of being admitted to our MA program so it might be best if you applied for the MA program first and if you do well you can think about applying to Ph.D programs.

Anyway, I hope I have not discouraged you too much but I believe it is important to be honest with students in letting them know what they will face when applying. Again, your interests do seem like a good fit with mine and if you are accepted into our program I would be happy to work with you.
