Dr. Xu’s research group will have multiple Ph.D. openings for Fall 2020 admission and is looking for self-motivated applications. Dr. Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Rochester. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan in 2016. His research interests range from solving core problems in computer vision to pushing the limits of their understanding in broader contexts of AI, including multisensory perception, cognitive robotics, and data science. He was the recipient of multiple NSF awards, including BIGDATA, CDS&E, and IIS Core, the University of Rochester’s AR/VR Pilot Award, Tencent Rhino-Bird Award, a Best Paper Award at Sound and Music Computing Conference, and an Open Source Code Award in IEEE CVPR. He has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in computer vision and artificial intelligence venues, including CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, AAAI, and IJCAI.The University of Rochester is a private institution that was founded in 1850. It is one of the smallest and most collegiate schools among the nation’s top research universities. According to US News and World Report 2019, the University of Rochester‘s ranking in the Best National Universities is 29nd. It is also ranked among top-30 schools in the U.S. to do artificial intelligence and computer vision by CSRankings.org.The Department of Computer Science at the University of Rochester is a research-oriented department with a distinguished history of contributions in systems, theory, artificial intelligence, and HCI. Over the past decade, a third of its PhD graduates have won tenure-track faculty positions, and its alumni include leaders at major research laboratories such as Google, Microsoft, and IBM.Admitted students will have a full scholarship with tuition waiver. The monthly stipend is $2,600 with tax exemption. Student health insurance is fully covered. The research group has sufficient fund to support students attend and present their work in domestic and international conferences including sending first-year students to experience conferences such as CVPR.
