I am pleased to inform you that the Graduate Studies Committee has evaluated your application and found that you meet our requirements for admission in Autumn Quarter 2013. We congratulate you and hope you consider entering the Environmental Science Graduate Program. However, you will receive formal admittance once you are matched with an advisor. This process involves choosing potential advisors and an advisor agreeing to accept you. To formalize your admission the commitment from an advisor is necessary and ESGP staff can assist you.
The Graduate Studies Committee strongly suggests that you review the research interests of our faculty, and then personally contact two or three faculty members whose interests match the areas of study that you wish to pursue. A list of ESGP faculty is available from our program website, esgp.osu.edu. Contacting potential advisors and discussing your future plans with them is the first stop to entering ESGP. We find it is critical to the success of all ESGP students to begin their program under the guidance and support of an advisor. Don’t be discouraged, the matching process sometimes takes several attempts.
ESGP does award teaching assistantships of one year to qualified applicants. However, being admitted to the ESGP does not guarantee financial support. Decisions on (TA’s) from the ESGP will be made and announced during Spring Quarter. Typically we are able to award a limited number of teaching associateships to highly qualified incoming students. First-year international students must pass the SPEAK and/or Mock Teach Test administered at Ohio State in order to become a graduate teaching associate (GTA). Please visit: esl.ehe.osu.edu Professors may also have research assistantships from their research grants.
