Job posting: ML/AI 1point3acres.com LinLab, CS department @ University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley
Looking for 2 hard working master’s students (provide full/partial scholarships for 2 years) with
background in computer science and math. The full scholarship covers tuition, monthly stipends,
and conference travel support.

If you are interested in studying ML/AI (hot), a master’s degree (less time investment), but also
research assistantships (financial support), please reach out to Beiyu Lin (1point3acres.com)
with your CV, transcripts, and a short paragraph to answer the questions "What is your favorite
paper from LinLab and why?” Thank you.
The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley is one great place to work. Our agenda is to accelerate
the movement towards academic excellence and commitment to students' engagement with society.

Think about palm trees, beautiful beaches, and wide sunsets reflected in sparking lakes, and
delicious seafood. That’s the setting for our beautiful university offering a vital and studentcentered
education.

Why work at LinLab (http://eecs.wsu.edu/~blin/)?

Beiyu Lin constructs computational models based on smart home sensor data to identify people’s
routine behavior patterns and assess their behavior changes; she also develops algorithms to
apply these findings to personalized healthcare. The impact of her multi-disciplinary research
collaborations has been reported in multiple publications. Beiyu has received several honors and
awards, including second place for the 3-Minute Thesis Competition in the Voiland College of
Engineering & Architecture. The recipient of several external scholarships, Beiyu has given
multiple invited talks and has taught and mentored students from diverse populations.
Beiyu would lead students to available resources (e.g., scholarship and potential internship
opportunities), provide support for research and career development, and help students
achieve their goals. Beiyu's mentoring style is to be encouraging and available to students.
The feedbacks collected from Beiyu's former students include “Far from clicking through slide
shows and getting a TA to run the lab, Beiyu was always available inside and outside of class to
explain any concepts we didn't understand”, “The professor was very personable and interactive
with our learning.”, etc.

Lin's research involves but not limited to machine learning, deep learning, human dynamics,
behavior modeling, home/building security, biomedical applications of AI, and smart
environments. Research in this area involves high coding (CS background), math background,
and hard work. If you are interested in these domains and would like to utilize technology to help
people live in a better life, please reach out.
