Dr. Lifu Huang is joining the Computer Science department at Virginia Tech as an Assistant Professor starting from Fall 2020. He is finishing a PhD at the Computer Science Department of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has a wide range of research interests in natural language processing, including extracting structured knowledge with limited supervision, natural language understanding and reasoning by leveraging external knowledge and commonsense, natural language generation and representation learning for cross-lingual and cross-domain transfer, and multi-modality learning. He received his M.S. and B.S. from Peking University and Northwestern Polytechnical University respectively, and has worked at Singapore Management University, Microsoft Research Asia, IBM Watson Research and Allen Institute for AI. He has served as the program committee member or reviewer for many top NLP and AI venues including ACL, NurIPS, EMNLP, NAACL, AAAI, etc. He is a recipient of the 2019 AI2 Fellowship.
Requirements:
(1) Undergraduate and Master students in Computer Science, Mathematics or related majors.
(2) Strong skills in programming, mathematical, deep learning, English writing and communication
(3) Strong research background and experience in Natural Language Processing or related areas
