Dr. Liu is an assistant professor in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department at West Virginia University. Prior to joining the faculty at WVU, he received a PhD from Texas Tech University in the Industrial Manufacturing and Systems Engineering Department. His research focus on laser-based additive manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing processes. Current interests include high-performance material development for directed energy deposition, laser-material interaction and molten pool behaviors of material mixing, energy transition, and solidification in laser additive manufacturing process.
He has published more than 50 academic works including journal articles, conference papers, book chapters. He is a member of ASME，IISE and SME.
