题目:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Colleges or Universities should offer more courses to prepare students for the future before they start working.

With the rapid development of human society and technology, talents are becoming an important resource which is essential for cities, countries, and even the whole world. Therefore, education improvement is regarded as one of the most significant problems and lots of debates have aroused around this topic. Recently, a controversial proposal has caught lots of people’s attention, that is, colleges or universities should offer more courses so that they can better prepare for their future work. In my opinion, this idea makes sense in some situations, but nothing is so simple.

Sometimes offering students more courses gives them a chance to get more knowledge, and with these knowledge they are more likely to have a good performance in future work. A great amount of human knowledge has accumulated in the past hundreds of years, which contributes to the fast improvement of science and technology. And the pace of human exploration would never stop, so new technologies are needed to satisfy the unlimited human aspiration and handle new emerging problems. All of them call for high developed human intelligence, which indicates that future work needs erudite person. Therefore, it’s not a bad choice to offer more courses and make them well qualified in future work.

However, before adding new courses, we need to make some questions clear: what kind of knowledge students really want? Would this policy put onerous burden on students? What kind of talents the society really need? Would it produce desirable results?
As already known, different students have different personality, interests and ability of handling stress. So the fact is that if a student is fascinated with his or her specialty, he or she tends to work hard and is willing to undertake more stress from onerous studies. On the contrary, if a student hates what he or she is learning, we’d better not to expect any positive results from extra courses. Therefore, to make sure that opening extra courses can benefit the students and the society, students’ opinions must be thoroughly considered.

Besides, in an era like this, it’s a rule to let the teaching of colleges or universities to meet the specific requirements of the society. Although most existing disciplines can contribute to society development more or less, the number of talents each major need is not the same. Usually, to keep the nation develop quickly, the government delicately regulate the workers of each major, by providing more resource to more significant disciplines and less to disciplines that is not so important. The result is that colleges or universities cannot offer courses as much as they can, or any kinds of courses they want. And they must decides the number and the type of the courses they are going to provide carefully, so that these students can gain knowledge required by the society and thus perform well in future work.

According to above discussion, in view of the benefits of both students and society, I recommend that colleges and universities should offer courses with thoroughly consideration. And a wide range of choices can be introduced to these courses so that students can take courses according to their interests.
