Openings:
The Social Sensing Lab at the School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois (ischool.illinois.edu) has multiple openings for Ph.D. students to work under the guidance of Dr. Dong Wang (wangdong.org) from Fall 2022.

Prospective students with an M.S or B.S degree (or expected by the time of admission) in Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on exciting research projects in emerging areas of AI, big data, human-centric sensing, computing, and intelligence. Examples include: (1) human-centric AI, big data analytics; (2) social sensing, crowdsourcing, human-cyber-physical systems; (3) smart cities, Internet of Things/Everything (IoT/IoE), intelligent edge; (4) misinformation detection on online social networks.

Preferred candidates should have a strong background in AI/data analytics/machine learning/statistics/networking and systems and/or solid system implementation and development skills.
The social sensing lab has state-of-the-art computing facilities to support the research. The lab also has a very collaborative working environment and provides individualized mentorships and tailored career plans for the students in the lab. Accepted students are guaranteed 5 years of funding in the form of research, teaching, and service assistantships, which include tuition waivers and stipends. We also offer travel support.
