The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University is seeking self-motivated candidates for a Graduate Research Assistant (Ph.D. student) position, with the earliest starting date in Spring 2022 (application deadline November 15, 2021). Successful candidates will join Dr. Chunli Dai's team, working on funded research projects in the general area of geodesy, geophysics, and remote sensing.

The main ongoing projects in Dai's group include:
1) coseismic deformation study using various remote sensing data (GPS, InSAR, satellite imagery, satellite gravimetry)
2) landslide detection and machine learning using digital elevation models
3) coastline mapping from satellite imagery
4) groundwater and regional subsidence monitoring from satellite gravimetry
5) geoid determination from various gravity and leveling data.

The Graduate Research Assistantship is designed to provide full-time, graduate students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and assistance with tuition while attending college. The graduate assistant is expected to carry out the important functions of researching assignments and perform well academically to retain the assistantship. Reappointment is not automatic for assistants who meet the minimum criteria. Rather, the final decision will be based on departmental needs, financial resources, and the supervisor's evaluation.

The graduate assistant must maintain a 3.0 average and is expected to make steady progress toward the degree. Students must reapply on a yearly basis. Students dropping below 3.0 are ineligible. Ordinarily, a student will hold only one assistantship at a time, and will not engage in full-time employment while holding the Graduate Assistantship. To be eligible for an assistantship, students must first maintain the skills required to perform the particular duties involved. While the academic record is a priority, outstanding interpersonal skills and facility in written and spoken English are also important.

Additional criteria include:
1. At least a 3.0 (B, or 83) undergraduate GPA
2. Full-time status (9 semester hours)
3. Full graduate standing admission (i.e., all required credentials and test scores on file)
4. No full-time employment
5. B.S. or M.S Degree in Geomatics, Geodesy, Geophysics, Physics, or other related disciplines.

In particular, self-motivated individuals who have research experience/interests in one or more of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:
; Remote sensing data (InSAR, GPS, GRACE, satellite photogrammetry)
; Solid earth deformation (coseismic deformation, coastal subsidence, etc.)
; Matlab, Fortran

To apply:
Please email Dr. Chunli Dai (chunlidai1 at gmail.com) with a detailed CV, including your transcripts (GPA), scores of TOEFL (or IELTS), and GRE, if applicable and available.
