Position Description: The Department of Computer at Texas State University has Ph.D. scholarships available in Fall 2022 with a guarantee of three years of support pending satisfactory progress in research and course work. We are seeking students who are interested in applying AI to health. In particular, the student will be involved in a National Science Foundation-funded collaborative research project on fall risk analysis and detection in elderly population using multi-modal machine learning techniques. Students will be working directly with Dr.Ngu and have the opportunity to also interact with physicians from the University of Texas, Dell Medical school and computer vision faculty at Illinois Institute of Technology, and access to human activity data from real-world participants. Dr.Ngu’s research interests are in data analytics and management, service computing, and the Internet of Things. She has published over 130 refereed technical papers in computer science, including papers in ICDE, WWW, ICSE, ICML, SIGIR, VLDB journal, TKDE and ACM Transactions on Computing for HealthCare.

Texas State’s applied computer science Ph.D. program is the first of its kind in Texas to combine the application of computer science knowledge and theory with the skills necessary for innovation and leadership and navigating multiple career paths.
