The Computational Imaging and Inverse Problems Group directed by Prof. Bo Zhao at the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) is looking for a highly-motivated Ph.D. student who is interested in computational imaging, signal processing, machine learning, and high-performance computing, as well as applications in medical imaging.

Prospective Ph.D. students should have a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related area, and should be very passionate about exploring unknowns in scientific research. Prospective Ph.D. students are expected to have:
  • Great research interests in the intersection of data science and imaging science
  • Solid mathematical foundations (e.g., linear algebra, probability, statistics, optimization) and engineering backgrounds (e.g., signal processing, linear systems, machine learning)
  • Strong coding skills in one of the computing languages, such as MATLAB, Python, C++, or Julia
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills

The Ph.D. student will be supported as a research assistant at the Graduate Program of Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSEM) or biomedical engineering (BME). The student will have access to the outstanding computing resources at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, which hosts Frontera, one of the top 10 supercomputers in the world. The student will also have access to the outstanding imaging facilities and will have chances to collaborate with clinicians to impact the field of healthcare with the cutting-edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

UT-Austin is a world-renown university, and its Cockrell School of Engineering is among the top 10 in the United States. The university is located at the city of Austin, which is the capital of Texas. Austin has been consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States, and is well known for Silicon Hills, which has embraced a cluster of top high-tech companies, including Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, IBM, Intel, and Cisco.

For those who are interested in this position, please visit the group webpage (ciip.oden.utexas.edu) and feel free to reach out to Prof. Zhao (1point3acres.com).
