Fully Funded ME PhD and Postdoc Positions at Cornell University

ZT Group is led by Prof. Zhiting Tian, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell. We are an interdisciplinary research group specializing in both computational modeling and experimental characterization of energy transport. Particularly, we are interested in thermal phonons and their interactions with other energy carriers, such as electrons, photons, and magnons. We are on a mission to advance the fundamental understanding of multiscale energy transport and make a transformative impact on material design and discovery for diverse applications. The impact of our work ranges from renewable energy conversion, microelectronics cooling, space and building technologies, additive manufacturing, biomedical engineering, and quantum computing.
ZT Group has multiple openings for self-motivated PhDs and Postdocs starting Jan 2022 or Fall 2022 (dates can be negotiable) and full scholarships are avalible.
Prior experience in the related areas is NOT a must. Particularly, students with experience or strong interest in one of the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:
Synthesis of polymer nanocomposites
Organic chemistry, especially conducting polymers and biodegradable polymers
Experimental characterization (TEM, SEM, etc.) and optical measurements (laser or x-ray)
Thermoelectric device building and testing
Atomistic Green’s function
Molecular dynamics simulations
Machine learning
Quantum field theory
Biological materials, such as enzymes
