Position: Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantships in Processing & Mechanics of Sustainable Materials/Structures at Georgia Institute of Technology
Emphases: Materials Science, Mechanics of Materials, Robotics, Biochemistry
Availability: On-going
Description: Prof. Athanasiou's mission is to make aviation and space exploration greener by developing sustainable materials and structures which will phase out the dependance on scarce and wasteful petroleum resources. He envisions to advance science and technology in the area of renewably sourced materials for zero-impact aviation. The students hired will be working on designing renewably sourced composite materials of high strength and fatigue resistance, developing new testing instruments, configurations and methodologies for the mechanical characterization of such materials and structures under extreme conditions as well as assembling actual structural parts.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold an MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biochemisty, Robotics or a closely related area. Outstanding candidates with excellent academic record and research interest/expertise in any of following areas are invited to apply.
