Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Colleges or Universities should offer more courses to prepare students for the future before they start working.
As we all know, in the Age of Information, students try their best to crave for new knowledge when they are in colleges, which maybe the most important places for them to become smarter and know the world better. So there comes an argument that whether the colleges or universities should increase the number of courses for students to better prepare them for their working life. In my point of view, there is totally no need of providing more college courses. Here are some reasons below.

Fist and most obvious reason, which will come into many people’s mind at once, is that if there are more classes, then the following homework and exams will also increase. As a result, it will give extra pressure to students and decrease their spare time. As Mark Twain once said, “The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.” It will easy to see that students will gradually lose laughter because of heavier burden. So colleges should provide less course in order to let their students have free time to develop their favorite habit.

Second, in the era of information explosion, it is impossible for a single person to achieve all knowledge, which means it is difficult to be universal genius. In addition, what modern society really needs is the kind of people who can master knowledge in specific field, and this also demonstrate that it’s not necessary to get different kind of knowledge. Therefore, if colleges or universities offer a little bit less but higher-quality courses, such as more class hours, well-designed homework and better professor, it’s easier to make their students be specialist in their major field which will be popular among the employees.

Furthermore, it is because that the knowledge in the world is so endless, college students can’t finish gaining every kind of knowledge. For this reason, the task of colleges or universities is not to teach students a lot of new knowledge by offering more courses to them, but to teach correct study method to students. Only by this way, students can eventually get the ability of how to find, understand and apply new information, which in turn will bring a promising future for them.

In summary, offering more courses would result in the worse mental and physical health of college students and also it would not be better for students to prepare their working life. Moreover, college class is not the only way to gain advanced knowledge any more. Self-study by using the internet and accumulate experience by participating social practice or internship are also good ways to learn knowledge. So personally, I strongly recommend there is no need for colleges and universities to provide more courses to students.
